Teacher-Friendly Thematic Units
Beverly Klingborn and Antonina Cardinalli
These resources are thematic units, designed to incorporate language,
math and other curriculum skills into the study of the ants, sea life,
and "the magnificent person - me!" themes. Written by teachers,
the lessons provide unique opportunities to implement each of these
elements. Students will be involved in several creative exercises, which
the text outlines for the teacher in a cookbook fashion.
Language instruction is repetitive, visual, and taught in a myriad of
contexts. Specific language goals are used repeatedly throughout the
lessons. Pictures, drawings, objects, rubber stamps, stickers, labels,
charts, transparencies, sentence strips, writing boards, slides, close-captioned
programs, computers, photographs, and dramatizations can be used to
make every aspect of a lesson visual.
Each lesson coordinates with
reproducible templates and worksheets, which are included (either within
the book or on an enclosed CD) for teacher output. Also included are
answer keys for worksheets that require them.
