BASICS!
Set 1: BASICS! Sentences
Set 2: BASICS! Questions
Set
3: BASICS! Antonyms
Set 4: BASICS! Synonyms
Christina Abramowski
Increase your student's ability to write complete sentences and
to be able to vary sentence structures to write more interesting
prose. Use a noun, verb, where and when phrase to make a sentence,
each on a different colored card. Pass cards from person to person
and the first to make a complete sentence wins! Switch the cards
around to make a new sentence and add points to your score. Build
sentences naturally and consistently.
Question writing also becomes easy when you play BASICS! Questions!
Use a question word, noun, verb, and where/when/whom/what phrase
to make a question, each on a different colored card. Again, first
to complete a question wins. Answer the question correctly and add
points to your score. Build questions naturally and consistently.
Antonyms and synonyms continue
the card game series with fun and entertaining games designed specifically
to build skill in these areas of language.

I Can Write
Dorothy McCarr
Each of these
3 workbooks contains 78 semiprogrammed pages leading the student to
write simple sentences through a systematic fadeout program.
These workbooks
make excellent supplementary material for the Apple Tree Language
Program for students who are in need of repetition and reinforcement.
Each workbook develops the use of eight action verbs, such as drinking,
climbing and pulling.

Patterned Language
Bill Peck
"Patterned
Language is the missing link betwen structured and whole language
approaches. We are
having dramatic results in spontaneous written language which we attribute
to the fact that Patterned Language's color coding scheme gives missing
clues that enabe students to internalize English sructure."
- Director of Deaf Program, Stockdale Christian School, Bakersfield,
CA
Patterned
Language was designed to help learners express themselves with well
organized written language. Patterned Language's flexibility can be
used with any language philosophy or instructional approach. The key
is to show what can be done with the words a learner has, not how
many words a learner has. Using color coding of basic syntactical
structures, Patterned Language provides a visual means of internalizing
the rules of language that hearing learners gain at young ages. It
provides a strong tool to organize existing language and to develop
new language skills.
Unit 1
- Students acquire a printed word vocabulary and communicate with
it on a 1-word basis. Generally used with preschool and kindergarten.
Unit 2
- Students communicate with 2 and 3-word strings, then expand those
strings into full sentences. Learners construct more difficult sentences
and progress from word-card manipulation and copying to the ability
to write sentences. Generally used with grades 1-5.
Unit 3
- Students write basic sentence patterns as statements or questions,
and transform basic sentences into compound and complex sentence patterns.
Generally used with grades 6-8.
Integrate
Patterned Language into all-day language acquisition and watch your
learner succeed with written communication.
A Spanish Edition of Patterned Language is now available. This
edition is used to teach Spanish to deaf students.

Apple
Tree Language Program
Marcia
Anderson, Norma Jean Boren, Janis Kilgore, Wyman Howard, Emmylou Krohn
The Apple Tree
Curriculum for developing Written Language is a language system that
provides a sequence of procedures for the construction and development
of basic English sentence structures. Retaining the same time-tested
teaching strategies as the original, its main thrust is to help the
student develop written language skills. Improvements in the new
edition include redesigned workbooks and teacher's manual, updated illustrations,
and fully integrated pre- and post-test materials included within the
manual for convenience. The content of the curriculum has been
revised to reflect the needs of diverse populations. The Apple
Tree Program reinforces and builds on material previously introduced
and allows for development of vocabulary and related concepts. Small
steps ensure students' success and continuous learning. The result is
improved self-image and the motivation to master more material.
Ten basic
language structures are taught:
