Receptive Fingerspelling Practices New Receptive Fingerspelling Practice
Receptive Fingerspelling skills can be difficult to master.  This program delivers words at a normal conversational speed so that students can focus on the overall shape of a word, rather than every letter.  When needed, a speed-adjustable animated hand can spell the word.  The videos can also be repeated as often as desired.

Various activities and levels of difficulty allow students to learn at their own level and pace.  Scoring provides motivation to achieve accuracy.

About 500 words allow for plenty of practice.  The words were chosen from high-frequency word lists, but excluded words that have common signs.  Thus most of the words in the program will be fingerspelled rather than signed in normal conversation.

From the main menu, choose a Learning Center activity or a game. In the Learning Center you can view videos of all the words in the program, see the handshape chart, or choose a set of words to learn and practice. The games test various skills and have varying levels of difficulty.

- Pairs Game: Decide whether two videos show the same or different words.
     - Doubles Game: Identify double letters inside words.
     - Look-Alikes Game: Pick out the word from a group of words that look similar when fingerspelled.
     - List Game: Identify words from one of 15 lists, or see words presented randomly.

System requirements: Windows XP sp2, Vista; Mac OS X

Fingerspelled Names & IntroductionsFingerspelling 1 & 2 DVD's
Signs For Intelligence

These DVDs are based upon Missy Keast's teaching experiences. Students. comments about old videos with outdated fashions convinced her that the students were not paying full attention to the content. Underwhelmed with existing materials, and experienced with studio productions, Missy knew she could modernize video based products. These DVDs play in a computer with a DVD drive or on a home TV/DVD system.

Teacher Guide DVDs
The Teacher DVDs are designed for any teacher of a dedicated fingerspelling class, or for a teacher of an advanced ASL class looking to supplement the current materials.

Content: Each of these sets contains a 16 week curriculum for teaching fingerspelling to students who need to learn or improve upon their skills. Each week a new lesson is introduced and taught using real life scenarios. Homework assignments reinforce classroom activities and are viewed on a computer screen or TV using a DVD player. Practice tests and exams are included. Students use standardized forms to complete the homework. This makes grading, recording and filing the results fast and easy.

How to use: In a dedicated fingerspelling class use the lesson plans to organize a 90 minute class that requires group and individual participation. Print only what you need for each class and supplement with your own favorite exercises. In an advanced ASL class simply assign the homework and review the concepts the following week.

Benefits: Students learn by watching a native signer tell a short story or anecdote. Students are required to prepare their own short stories for classroom participation. Students spend all of their time either watching a native signer or practicing their own signs. No time is wasted reading text.

What you get in each Teacher Guide set: Two DVDs including the entire Student DVD that contains printable homework assignment with fill in the blank formatting. The printable material enables you to conveniently print daily lesson plans and exercises when you need them. Printing directly to transparencies is also possible. The DVDs contain all the printed materials as a file.

Student DVDs
Excellent for student or interpreter self study or as part of a formal class, these DVDs are companions to the 16 week Teacher's Guides. Students will learn to acquire fingerspelled words and express themselves in context through short stories and anecdotes.

Content: Rules/concepts, practice words and real world stories. Fingerspelling is included as part of the monologue. Includes both the video and accompanying printable assignments with fill in the blank formatting. Fun homework assignments are integrated into real life scenarios similar to what would be encountered when socializing or interpreting for the deaf. All content is totally video based. There are no black and white figure drawings with arrows. 1 page / 1 lesson concept makes homework assignments simple to understand.

What you get:
DVDs include printable homework assignments with fill in the blank formatting. DVDs contain all the printed materials as a file so there is no need to own a bulky and expensive book.
