Signs For Intelligence
These DVDs are based upon Missy Keast's teaching experiences. Students. comments about old videos with outdated fashions convinced her that the students were not paying full attention to the content. Underwhelmed with existing materials, and experienced with studio productions, Missy knew she could modernize video based products. These DVDs play in a computer with a DVD drive or on a home TV/DVD system.
Teacher Guide DVDs
The Teacher DVDs are designed for any teacher of a dedicated fingerspelling class, or for a teacher of an advanced ASL class looking to supplement the current materials.
Content: Each of these sets contains a 16 week curriculum for teaching fingerspelling to students who need to learn or improve upon their skills. Each week a new lesson is introduced and taught using real life scenarios. Homework assignments reinforce classroom activities and are viewed on a computer screen or TV using a DVD player. Practice tests and exams are included. Students use standardized forms to complete the homework. This makes grading, recording and filing the results fast and easy. How to use: In a dedicated fingerspelling class use the lesson plans to organize a 90 minute class that requires group and individual participation. Print only what you need for each class and supplement with your own favorite exercises. In an advanced ASL class simply assign the homework and review the concepts the following week.
Benefits: Students learn by watching a native signer tell a short story or anecdote. Students are required to prepare their own short stories for classroom participation. Students spend all of their time either watching a native signer or practicing their own signs. No time is wasted reading text.
What you get in each Teacher Guide set: Two DVDs including the entire Student DVD that contains printable homework assignment with fill in the blank formatting. The printable material enables you to conveniently print daily lesson plans and exercises when you need them. Printing directly to transparencies is also possible. The DVDs contain all the printed materials as a file.
Student DVDs
Excellent for student or interpreter self study or as part of a formal class, these DVDs are companions to the 16 week Teacher's Guides. Students will learn to acquire fingerspelled words and express themselves in context through short stories and anecdotes.
